This concert celebrates incredible creativity with Dvořák’s unique use of the cello and the world premiere of First Symphony composer Michael Djupstrom’s first-ever symphony.

One of the greatest artistic achievements of the Romantic era, Antonin Dvořák’s Cello Concerto is both exhilarating and profound, and showcases the cello in ways previously not thought possible when it was composed. Gioachino Rossini’s Overture to William Tell may be best known in this country for its use in The Lone Ranger and is a masterpiece through and through. In between, we’ll witness the world premiere of composer Michael Djupstrom’s First Symphony, as the final work in our four-year project investing in the future of orchestral music.

Revel in The Seahorse and the Crab, an underwater adaptation of the beloved tale, The Tortoise and the Hare. A whimsical and humorous musical suite, The Carnival of the Animals, features 14 animal-themed movements, each representing how unique animal mannerisms and sounds can come to life through music.

Rachmaninov’s Rhapsody opens our exhilarating season in a concert that introduces composer Michael Djupstrom with From the Northern Wilds.

Our 2023/24 season takes flight with a concert that showcases the virtuosity of every member of the orchestra, especially in Sergei Prokofiev’s glorious Symphony No. 5. Imaginative pianist Claire Huangci will perform Sergei Rachmaninov’s poetic Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, which ingeniously transforms one of classical music’s most familiar and beloved themes into an inspiring showpiece. From the Northern Wilds introduces us to our final First Symphony Project Composer, Michael Djupstrom and charts the Missouri River’s flowing and majestic course from its start at an unmarked Montana spring.
