You need music to be able to dance. That's clear. But conversely, there are also dances that become music themselves. One of the most well-known examples is tap dancing. Those who master it can play the drums with their feet. What do you need? The right shoes, a sense of rhythm, and body control.

In Nino Rota's "Nonetto," his characteristically sensitive melodic structure and Mediterranean flair combine to create one of the most elegant chamber music works of the entire 20th century. Rota's first version of this piece was created in 1959 – the same year as Bohuslav Martinu°'s Nonet No. 2. Martinu° completed it shortly before his death. His biographer, Harry Halbreich, called it "Martinu°'s chamber music legacy," which, despite its apparent modesty, surpasses almost all of the composer's other works. Here, he said, is a piece of eternal beauty. "As with Mozart's late work," Halbreich summarized, "in this work, the deepest feeling and the wisdom of a lifetime are concealed behind the facade of graceful divertissements and smiling purity of expression."
