In a distant land, a king, after a life of conquest, prepares for his final day. At his side is the most faithful of his slaves: they are nearly the same age, and the king has taken everything from the slave: his land, his wife, his children, his freedom. Yet their destinies have since then become inextricably linked, and now they stand side by side on the king's final day. But when it comes to making his final gesture, placing the coin that will pay for his journey to the afterlife under the king's tongue, the slave doesn't put the coin in the king's mouth and waits. He waits. He waits, until the king opens his eyes and, returning from the realm of the dead, tells the slave everything he has seen: what the afterlife is like, the role of Necessity, his encounter with Charon and Hades, but above all, how the game of fate works...
