The Chicago Symphony Orchestra responds to Professor Steven Rings’ prompt to explore music of the vernacular. In this chamber music program, musicians from the CSO take on Stravinsky’s Concertino, written while he was living in a fishing village in France; Dvořák’s String Quartet No. 14 featuring a lively syncopation related to a Czech stomping dance, and Tchaikovsky’s Souvenir de Florence with distinctly Russian folk-like melodies.

The Wabash Avenue Music Collective presents a program characterized by strings but fortified by moments for clarinet and voice. Haydn’s String Quartet in D Minor, famous for its opening fifths, casts a melancholy spell, highlighting the expressive range of the strings. Mozart’s Quintet is a masterfully integrated chamber work in which individual strings occasionally sing out from center stage above the harmonious blend created by the clarinet. Featuring mezzo-soprano Sara Dailey in this performance, Raimi’s Runagate Runagate allows the human voice to do the same.

Immerse yourself in the enchanting melodies of Vivaldi's Four Seasons at the "Seasons at the Cathedral" concert, presented by the Peoria Symphony Orchestra. This captivating event will be held at the historic Cathedral of St. Mary, located at 607 NE Madison Ave, Peoria, Illinois 61603. The performances are scheduled for Friday, November 15, 2024, at 7:30 pm, and Saturday, November 16, 2024, at 3:00 pm.

Under the baton of conductor George Stelluto and featuring the virtuosic talents of violinist Rong-Yan Tang, the evening promises an unforgettable auditory journey through the changing seasons. The program includes Maddalena Casulana's "Ben Venga Il Pastor" arranged by Stelluto, Stelluto's own "Fugal Musings on Ben Venga Il Pastor," Johann Sebastian Bach's "Orchestral Suite No. 2 in B Minor," Tomaso Albinoni's "Sonata St. Mark’s, Op. 6, No. 11," and culminates with Antonio Vivaldi's timeless masterpiece, "The Four Seasons."

Rong-Yan Tang, a celebrated musician known for her performances on the CSO’s Chamber Music series and educational concerts at Chicago Public Schools, brings her exceptional skills to the forefront as a soloist. Her previous appearances include recitals at the Art Institute of Chicago and broadcasts on WFMT-FM, as well as performances with regional orchestras.
