The program opened with an unexpected Vivaldi: his Concerto for Two Cellos RV 531 , reimagined for cello (Cyrille Tricoire De Haro) and bassoon (Rodolphe Bernard). A rare dialogue between two instruments, between Baroque virtuosity and the complicity of the soloists. Mendelssohn then unfolded the legend of La Belle Mélusine , a fairy-tale overture with melodious waves. Ravel, with his Menuet antique , revived the grace of a bygone era, while Debussy, in Nuages ​​(from the Nocturnes ), suspended the sky in its luminous grays. As a grand finale, Mozart's "Haffner" Symphony burst forth in vibrant fanfares and majestic dances. A night of stars, breaths, and strings.

United within the Montpellier National Orchestra, these four soloists have chosen to transform this constraint into a source of freedom. Rather than striving for absolute fidelity to the works they interpret, they breathe new life into them, imbuing them with their own unique poetic coherence. From Handel's Baroque to the vibrant sounds of the 20th century —Bartók, Bernstein, Holst—the quartet traverses eras and styles, transcribing, reinventing, and reinterpreting. Each arrangement becomes a work in its own right, carried by the singularity of this unexpected sonic encounter.

"Symphonic!" Quintet

Acclaimed on the world's greatest stages, the Quebec contralto enjoys a special relationship with the Opéra Orchestre, nurtured in particular by a 2016 recording with the Orchestre national Montpellier featuring the music of Gioachino Rossini, as well as by her moving interpretation of Charlotte in Jules Massenet's Werther in 2021. She returns today with a more intimate repertoire, alongside her faithful collaborator of over twenty years, pianist Daniel Blumenthal, with whom she has forged a rare artistic synergy, and Cyrille Tricoire De Haro, principal cellist of the Orchestra. Together, they explore the many facets of love: the tenderness and spirituality of Johannes Brahms's Zwei Gesänge and Vier ernste Gesänge respond to the poignant Expressions lyriques of Massenet, the final declaration of love from a composer at the height of his powers. A rare, intense and deeply embodied recital.

As part of its mission to transmit and share music, the Montpellier National Opera Orchestra is showcasing amateur musical practice through three major concerts presenting the results of workshops held throughout the season. Accompanied by professional musicians, the participants – singers from the Un Air de famille Choir, cellists from À vos pupitres, and trombonists and tuba players from Sortons des coulisses – demonstrate their commitment and passion for music.
