Chamber music has a deep-rooted tradition in the Czech Republic, one that is actively nurtured through education. A key player in this is the Academy of Chamber Music, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. The occasion will be marked with a concert featuring current members, alumni, and faculty members, including a world premiere by composer Jan Ryant Dřizal.

In March, we invite you to meet the young musicians of the Czech Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. You will get a glimpse behind the scenes of their preparations – you will attend a rehearsal of Dvořák's famous Cello Concerto, conducted by Marko Ivanović in the Dvořák Hall with one of the most interesting soloists of the young generation of musicians – cellist Vilém Vlček. The entire meeting will be enlivened by an unusual venue: the introduction and conclusion will take place in the Presidential Lounge of the Rudolfinum.

How Dvořák's cello concerto is rehearsed

"I've just finished the first movement of a my Cello Concerto! Do not be amazed as I was (…) that I have decided to undertake such work", writes Dvořák from New York to his friend Alois Göbl in Bohemia. The work even surprised Dvořák's friend, the composer Johannes Brahms, who declared: "Why on earth did I not know that one could write a cello concerto LIKE THAT? If I had had any idea, I would have written one long ago!" We will hear Dvořák's Cello Concerto played by the outstanding young cellist Vilém Vlček.
