In segregated 1950s Pittsburgh, a former Negro League baseball star scrapes by as a sanitation worker. Bitter that race kept him from the major leagues, he asserts control over his life in his relationships with his wife and son. But even as he takes responsibility for their well-being, he betrays them in ways that forever alter their lives.
