When Bach’s pupil Johann Ludwig Krebs applied for the position of court organist in Altenburg in 1756, he was auditioned by Georg Benda, Kapellmeister to Duke Friedrich III of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg. We don’t know exactly how often Krebs and Benda worked together but collaboration seems likely. This program will contrast their two styles and show the way they may have influenced each other.
