The Townsend Symposia on Music, Philosophy, and the Arts is an opportunity to present new ideas to students, artists, and arts administrators in the community. This year’s featured speaker, Dr. Jack Stamp, currently serves as the “International Composer in Association” to the world-renowned Grimethorpe Colliery Brass Band, having retired from full-time employment in 2015 as Professor of Music and Director of Band Studies at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) where he conducted the Wind Ensemble and taught courses in graduate conducting. Dr. Stamp is active as a guest conductor, clinician, adjudicator, and composer throughout North America and Great Britain. He is composing works for the world-famous Barcelona Clarinet Players culminating in a new recording in 2024. Dr. Stamp earned his Bachelor of Science in Music Education from IUP, a Master’s in Percussion Performance from East Carolina University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Conducting from Michigan State University where he studied with Eugene Corporon.
