In 1935, Anton Webern followed the example of his teacher Arnold Schönberg, who had studied Bach's music intensively between the two world wars. Following his teacher's ideals, Webern orchestrated the "Ricercar" from Bach's "Musical Offering". Alban Berg, also a student of Schönberg, saw his violin concerto as a requiem for Manon Gropius, who died of polio at the age of just 18. A..
