“Showmaster is my job, a job that the devil created…” Rudi Carrell sang about himself in 1975 with an ironic undertone and later shaped German television as a showmaster until the 2000s. Carrell, a perfectionist and tireless source of ideas, was always on the lookout for new show elements to inspire his audience. But behind the charming entertainer there was also an ambivalent character.
