The season finale will be breathtaking: the cycle of all Brahms symphonies will be completed, and Shostakovich's First Violin Concerto delivers pure drama. A somber beginning, a frenzied scherzo, an epic passacaglia, and a furious finale—Shostakovich has arguably created one of the greatest solo concertos of the 20th century. This is music of existential importance that truly gets under your skin. The internationally renowned violinist Vadim Gluzman is the ideal soloist for this bravura piece. Brahms' Fourth Symphony completes his symphonic oeuvre. In his own words, he "wasn't at all eager to write a bad No. 4." And he wasn't—quite the opposite: the composer has created a milestone here. And just as the season began with Brahms, so it ends with him. Brahms, Bremen, and the Bremen Philharmonic belong inextricably together.
