The Loft Hour: Chris Batterman Cháirez + Cathy Lu

In this talk, I explore the concept of storytelling as a fundamental compositional tool within my practice, where narratives are not merely thematic but serve as active agents in the creation of musical structures. By embracing a multidisciplinary approach, I delve into how narratives are constructed and articulated across various artistic practices, including electronic music, visuals, installation art, classical composition, and theater. The discussion will focus on the processes of building and deconstructing narratives, demonstrating how these diverse practices interact to form cohesive, immersive experiences in my work. Through the examples from my work, I will illustrate how storytelling can bridge these disparate artistic elements, offering new perspectives on the role of narrative in contemporary composition.
