In a religious context, the Marian Vespers is the name given to the liturgical celebration of the evening hours on Marian feast days; in the Rheingau, it is the occasion for an inspiring listening experience: This year, the Rheingau Music Festival is once again presenting a contribution to the Marian Vespers genre. After several discoveries in previous years, 2025 is the time again for the queen of all Marian Vespers: Monteverdi's "Vespro della Beata Vergine," a masterpiece at the threshold of the Renaissance and the Baroque. With the Vocalensemble Rastatt, Les Favorites, and Holger Speck, we have invited outstanding interpreters to the Rheingau for this work, which is rightly considered one of the milestones in European music history.
