Love can be boundless happiness and fulfillment, but also deep sadness and pain. Sometimes all of these things at the same time, which doesn't necessarily make things easier. But above all, love is one thing: mysterious, unfathomable, and unpredictable. This is how Sergei Rachmaninoff, at 20, the prime age for great emotions, describes it in a magnificent tone poem which – another enigma – is extremely rarely performed despite its great beauty.
