It is the orchestra's evening – partly because there is no soloist, and partly because a favorite among many orchestral musicians is on the program, Brahms's 2nd Symphony. It is very melodious – more light and airy than most of his other symphonies. Some have described it as his pastoral symphony, because it contains several nature-inspired themes and a generally peaceful atmosphere.
