Many musical masterpieces have been used in cinema for their powerful evocative power, such as Barber's famous Adagio, heard in over twenty films. Another American composer, Bernard Herrmann, has often been associated with the great director Alfred Hitchcock, for whom he composed numerous original scores, including that of the film Psycho, which left its mark on the imagination through its unforgettable use of string instruments.
