Needing a jolt of holiday cheer in the lull between Christmas and the New Year?

Home for the Holidays is a benefit concert for Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra – we’re gathering together some of the city’s best voices from near and far for a night of beautiful music.

Saskatoon is home to more than its fair share of incredibly talented opera singers – we’re fortunate that during the holidays, we can bring together these singers in a single night to celebrate and make merry. Many of our fine young singers who are home for the holidays are getting involved in the evening and are excited to lend their voices to a great cause.

The Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra will present Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl in concert featuring Klaus Badelt & Hans Zimmer’s score performed live to the film. The concert will be conducted by Andrew Crust on January 23, 2027, at TCU Place.

Oscar® and GRAMMY® Award-winning composer Hans Zimmer and his production team have scored each Pirates of the Caribbean adventure for the franchise. The original score raised the bar for thematic complexity with its orchestral swashbuckling flavor accentuated by the use of horns for melody.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl is based on the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction at Disney Parks and is the first installment of the film series. Set in the 18th century, Captain Jack Sparrow is roguish yet charming, as he sails the Caribbean on his ship the Black Pearl. But Jack’s idyllic life capsizes when his nemesis, the wily Captain Barbossa, steals Jack’s ship and later attacks the town of Port Royal, kidnapping the Governor’s beautiful daughter, Elizabeth Swann. In a gallant attempt to rescue her and recapture the Black Pearl, Elizabeth’s childhood friend, Will Turner, joins forces with Jack. Unbeknownst to Will, whose father once served with the crew of the Black Pearl, there is a curse that has doomed Barbossa and his men to live forever as the undead.

A concert designed specifically for your Valentines’ weekend–full of romance, passion, and music!

Johannes Moser is one of the world’s greatest cellists…and he just so happens to have a deep tie to Saskatoon.

Moser’s mother, the world-renowned soprano Edith Wiens, grew up just north of Saskatoon, so it is always special to have Moser here for a performance. Known for his passionate and dramatic performances, showcasing his exceptional virtuosity, Moser will be performing Dvořák’s romantic Cello Concerto.

The evening opens with the Saskatoon Youth Orchestra taking the stage alongside some SSO mentors, before your Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra takes the reins for a night of romance and passion.

In Love Again

Two greats meet on stage for one special concert.

Renowned cellist Johannes Moser is joined by superstar pianist Marc-André Hamelin for a concert featuring works for cello and piano by Ludwig van Beethoven.

“…bravura flourishes of the strapping and exuberant…Johannes Moser” The New York Times

“Melodic fragments were subtly shaded with minute variations of dynamics and tonal color. Moser deliberately paced the long cadenza, assaying the difficult leaps of register with total accuracy while allowing the music to speak directly in an unforced manner. By contrast the finale was taken at a lightning clip. Beneath the brilliance and verve of Moser’s playing, there was always expressive depth.” Miami Herald
