The Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra invites you to an evening of discovery and delight with two exciting world premieres by composer-in-residence, Michael Shapiro. Shapiro’s Zoomies! is a playful and energetic new work inspired by the joyful, unpredictable bursts of energy we love in our canine companions.  The spotlight turns to celebrated violinist Tim Fain for the world premiere of Shapiro’s Violin Concerto: At the Shore of the Sea. Lyrical and expansive, this evocative work reflects the meeting point between land and water expressed through Fain’s breathtaking virtuosity. Anchoring the program is Felix Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 1 in C minor, Op. 11, a brilliant and passionate work composed when Mendelssohn was just 15. The program begins with Mendelssohn’s The Hebrides Overture, a richly atmospheric tone poem inspired by the rugged beauty of Scotland’s coastline.

Toulmin Foundation and the League of American Orchestras. (CHROMA lives up to its name—exploring a dazzling spectrum of musical hues in a piece that is both inventive and deeply resonant.)

Feel the pulse of John Adams’ Shaker Loops as choreographer Joshua Blake Carter translates the work’s driving rhythms and shimmering textures into a kinetic, mesmerizing display of movement. Then, step into the bustling streets of 1920s France with Gershwin’s An American in Paris, brought to life through the vibrant choreography of David Hochoy. The program also features the second movement of Glass Pieces by Philip Glass, a hypnotic and meditative work that evokes ritual and reverence, with choreography by Sean Aaron Carmon. This high-energy program blends contemporary and classic American voices in music and dance for a dynamic, can’t-miss experience.
