Max Opferkuch, clarinet, and the Zelter Quartet

In 1890 Brahms retired from composing, but, after hearing the clarinetist Richard Mühlfeld, was inspired to write clarinet music. His Clarinet Quintet (1891) breathed new life into a neglected medium.
