For Carnival, Shrovetide or Mardi Gras we will take you to Paris, where operetta was born, then travel to Vienna where it continued to flourish and finally to Berlin, which gave the genre a witty and cheeky boost. Included are, of course, compositions by Jacques Offenbach, with whom it all began in Paris, but also by Charles Gounod.
