The horn held a high status in the Romantic era. It was the instrument whose distinctive sound symbolized nature, the forest, and freedom. The German Hornsound ensemble will perform a full horn quartet in this school concert, playing Robert Schumann's Konzertstück for four horns and orchestra. The forest also plays a central role in the Romantic opera "Der Freischütz," whose overture will be heard in this concert.
