Refusing to sacrifice to Venus, the young Christian Theodora will be condemned by the Romans to prostitution and will die a martyr. Far from the gallant heroism of Julius Caesar given last season, Handel finds, for this sumptuous oratorio of maturity, elegiac accents of a moving depth, magnified by Thomas Dunford and his Jupiter ensemble. Two exceptional singers and tragedians to embody this mystical drama: Lea Desandre and Avery Amereau .
