The "Freischütz Overture" had already established itself quite early on. Independent of the opera to which it actually belongs, it enjoyed a remarkable career in the concert halls. Carl Maria von Weber incorporates the central elements of the opera's plot in it. The forest atmosphere, the Wolf's Glen, and Agathe's love aria characterize the overture, which anticipates the opera's happy ending in radiant C major.
