Monasteries were not only places of spirituality, but also cultural centers. They attracted composers whose music was preserved in the archives and passed on between friendly monasteries. In the 1960s, Robert Münster, then head of the music department of the Bavarian State Library, embarked on a musical treasure hunt: He rummaged through music cabinets and organ lofts in monasteries throughout Bavaria – with great success. In the process, he discovered true rarities, including works by W.A. Mozart. In our concert, you have the unique opportunity to experience further treasures from Münster's legacy live for the first time in over 250 years.

European Romantic masterpieces viewed through a magical lens. The Romantic impulse spread across Europe like wildfire in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Songs, chansons, and chants became vehicles of the deepest human feelings, longings, and fantasies. This program pays tribute to many of the greatest European composers of Romantic vocal music of the period: Edward Elgar and Ralph Vaughan Williams from England; Hugo Alfvén from Sweden; Felix and Fanny Mendelssohn and Franz Schubert from Austria; and Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel, and Camille Saint-Saëns from France. This evening, The King's Singers invite you to share in their collective imagination and bold emotional openness—with a magical journey through some of their most evocative reflections on life, love, nature, death, and the supernatural.
