On November 9, 1938, Nazi gangs destroyed Jewish businesses and burned synagogues and other Jewish institutions. Thousands of Jews were abused, arrested, or murdered during this "Reichskristallnacht" (Pogrom Night). Similar attacks also occurred in Frankfurt (Oder), where Germans also burned the synagogue.
