With themed décor, curated cuisine, and surprise performances, this event supports Gulfshore Opera’s mission of enriching lives through accessible, high-quality opera across Southwest Florida. Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess is a thought provoking, gritty and spirited ‘Story of the unshakeable love between Porgy, a crippled beggar, and Bess, a beautiful woman haunted by the demons of her past. Gershwin’s jazz opera is infused with influences of jazz, gospel, and blues. This abbreviated telling features  Metropolitan Opera Bass Baritone Kevin Short and Marsha Thompson, who have toured the world as Porgy. Many songs have become popular jazz and blues covers, including the well-known ‘Summertime’

Set in the charming outdoor courtyard of Carmelo’s Italian Ristorante, this evening features timeless hits by Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Adele, and Celine Dion—songs like “Stop in the Name of Love,” “Killing Me Softly,” and “You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman.” The program also includes select duets and scenes from beloved operas such as Elixir of Love, Falstaff, and Madame Butterfly. Guests will enjoy a savory, three-course Italian dinner, fine wine, and spirited entertainment in an unforgettable alfresco setting.
