Saint Vincent Church

Verdi's Four Sacred Pieces represent the composer's spiritual testament and achieve unprecedented dramatic power – from the poignant lyricism of the Ave Maria to the monumentality of the Te Deum . They will be performed by the Chorus of the Montpellier National Opera, prepared by Noëlle Gény. In counterpoint, Schubert's Symphony No. 5 , composed at the age of 19 in the euphoria of his discovery of Mozart, embodies a vibrant homage to Viennese classicism. Under the sensitive direction of Italian conductor Clelia Cafiero, the strings dialogue with Mozartian transparency, while the woodwinds bring a pastoral hue to this youthful work that adopts romantic harmonic colors. Between fervor and light, an evening where the sacred is by turns intimate and grandiose.

Opéra Comédie

This program features a range of vocal works from around the world, from the minimalism of John Cage to the sonic inventions of Mauricio Kagel, from Nordic traditions to the most playful contemporary music. Through vocal games, refined polyphonies, and pieces bordering on musical theater, the young singers of Opéra Junior, led by their choirmaster Albert Alcaraz, take on the challenge of these modern and expressive works with the freshness, energy, and rigor that are the hallmarks of this unique project in Europe.

Performing opera from a young age is a unique adventure that Opéra Junior has been offering to young people in Montpellier and the surrounding region for over 30 years. From the age of 4, children have the opportunity to be trained in singing, dance, and theater, and to discover all the professions of opera, working alongside composers, conductors, musicians, directors, costume designers, set designers, and professional technicians. The cello, long confined to the bass, rises to imitate the violin and reveal all its virtuosity. Exploring previously unpublished works by composers such as Giulio Ruvo, Giorgio Antoniotto, and Vivaldi, this concert tells the fascinating story of the instrument and its popular origins, sometimes meditative, sometimes exuberant. An invitation to discover an instrument in full emancipation.

In Pēteris Vasks's Musica serena , the strings engage in an intimate meditation and dialogue as if they were a single, perfectly coordinated instrument, reacting to the conductor's every move. In the Sinfonia concertante , a new creation by the Franco-Argentine composer Strasnoy, Alexandre Tharaud and Jean-Guihen Queyras invent a bold play of mirrors, sometimes fused thanks to unsettling unisons, sometimes rivalry through rhythmic jousts. In the midst of this conversation on the border between concerto and symphony, the orchestra intrudes and establishes itself as a third partner, reacting to each of their phrasings. Finally, Dvořák's Symphony No. 5 reveals its Czech roots, from the folk dances of the scherzo to the incredible rhythmic energy of the finale. Poga and the orchestra will highlight its warm colors and spring-like vitality.

The Opera Orchestra welcomes non-professional musicians to the Salle Molière. A concert piano will be at your disposal. You can choose to perform alone, with family, or with friends. So step onto the Salle Molière stage and experience the unique experience of performing in front of an audience!

Sometimes telling yourself that you would like to sing or play an instrument, discovering by chance the Opera Orchestra's workshop offerings, daring to sign up and realizing from the first meeting at the beginning of the season how happy you are to participate. After months of work, learning, laughter, and exchange, finally being ready to share your passion for music and perform on the stage of the Opéra Comédie. They are amateurs in the noblest sense of the term: they love.
