More details
Felix Mendelssohn composed his monumental oratorio Elijah in 1846, at the height of his career. The work combines the grandeur of Handel and Bach with Mendelssohn’s Romantic refinement. Dramatic choral passages, intimate arias, and virtuosic ensembles alternate in a score that vividly portrays the struggles and spirituality of the prophet Elijah.
