The La Crosse Symphony Orchestra is celebrating the 36th annual Valentine Ball: The Red Carpet! Prepare yourself for a night of elegance, paparazzi, and dancing! With a chef-prepared meal, a few surprises as always, a band and specialty drinks, this will be the event of the year in La Crosse!

The Valentine Ball is one of our biggest fundraisers and the benefits of supporting the La Crosse Symphony are broad. Our community benefits through improving quality of living, increasing happiness through experiencing live art, increasing economic impact, attracting high level employees, and helping to define us as a thriving arts community. All of these benefits plus the benefits of our five educational programs brings the value of support to a high level with a broad audience of all ages and backgrounds.

In 2020, the La Crosse Symphony started filming all of their concerts. We have pulled pieces to create the LSO Film Collection which includes a pre-concert lecture from our very own Maestro Alexander Platt.

Rising Stars, and Great Romantics: what could be better? Two top winners from the LSO's annual Rising Stars young artist competition join the Orchestra in favorite movements from the concerto repertoire -- with their bookends being two of the great Second Symphonies of the early Romantic Era: the Austrian Franz Schubert, and the German genius Robert Schumann, who both left the world too soon.....while their symphonies have lasted forever.

Goldfinger, Lawrence of Arabia, Gone With the Wind -- imagine some of the greatest scores of The Golden Age of Hollywood, paired with contemporary favorites like Harry Potter and Mission Impossible -- and you have the perfect Movie Night at the La Crosse Symphony Orchestra! Once again, Dustin and Dominique Luecke are your hosts. To top it all off, the La Crosse Youth Symphony joins the LSO, side-by-side, for Rossini's sparking overture to The Barber of Seville -- used to wonderful effect in the great 1979 Midwestern coming-of-age classic comedy, Breaking Away.

Hollywood Treasures

Once again the La Crosse Symphony Orchestra will finish out our season with another "over-the-top" orchestral journey. The young Russian phenomenon Andrey Gugnin -- who, last season, entered our hearts with a magisterial rendition of the Grieg Piano Concerto, done miraculously with the LSO without rehearsal! -- returns for what will no doubt be an equally majestic reading of the first of two concertos of Johannes Brahms, with whom our season began.....And on our second half, in another great La Crosse tradition, our two winning Conductor Wannabees will regale us with their podium talents! Two works redolent of the joys of summer -- a  poignant, forgotten gem of the Englishman Frederick Delius, and the ecstatic and oh-so-French "Daphnis and Chloe" ballet of Maurice Ravel -- wind up what will be a magnificent grand finale!
