Tri-Cities Opera's 2026 Season: A Blend of Tradition and Innovation

Lucidity is a chamber opera by composer Laura Kaminsky and librettist David Cote that explores the fragile interplay between memory, identity, and music. The story centers on Lili, a celebrated former opera singer confronting the early stages of dementia. As her cognitive abilities decline, her son Dante—a once-promising pianist—has put his own career on hold to care for her. Their dynamic is further complicated when Dr. Claire Klugman, a neuroscientist and Lili’s former student, introduces Lili to a music therapy study involving Sunny, a gifted young clarinetist.

La Traviata, composed by Giuseppe Verdi with a libretto by Francesco Maria Piave, is a tragic opera set in Paris and follows the story of Violetta Valéry, a celebrated courtesan. At a lavish party, she meets Alfredo Germont, a young man who has admired her from afar. Touched by his sincerity and love, Violetta abandons her glamorous lifestyle and retreats to the countryside with him. Their happiness is short-lived, however, when Alfredo’s father, Giorgio Germont, secretly visits Violetta and urges her to end the relationship to preserve the family’s honor and secure his daughter’s future. Heartbroken, Violetta sacrifices her own happiness and leaves Alfredo without explaining the true reason.

The Pocket Opera Project is telling stories with a distinct new voice! Local elementary and middle school students have been selected to have their story submissions transformed into mini-operas — in collaboration with Binghamton University composers.
