The evening's program is framed by two works for the ensemble of piano, viola and clarinet, an ensemble for which Mozart was the first to write a work back in 1786, which was to have a significant impact on the spread of the clarinet as a classical instrument. It was a fairly new instrument in Mozart's time, but quickly found its place as a fully integrated and widely used instrument in both orchestral and chamber music.
