Set in the lush forests surrounding the Great Lakes, The Bear Who Couldn’t Fish follows Mato, a young bear embarking on his first solo adventure. Eager to catch his own fish, Mato realizes he can't remember how! As he journeys through the wilderness, Mato encounters a variety of animal friends who teach him not only about fishing but also about the delicate ecosystems of the Great Lakes region. Through these interactions, Mato learns that seeking help is a strength and that understanding the environment is key to thriving within it.​

This original opera seamlessly blends engaging storytelling with scientific education, introducing young audiences to concepts like aquatic habitats, biodiversity, and environmental stewardship. Raise a glass to an unforgettable evening of flavor, flair, and friendly rivalry! Join Toledo Opera on Friday, February 6 from 7-9 PM at the Jefferson Center for Top Shelf, a cocktail showdown inspired by The Elixir of Love.

Some of Toledo’s favorite local celebrities will step behind the bar for one night only, competing as mixologists to craft the most crowd-pleasing cocktail. Each will be paired with an assistant from the cast/creative team of The Elixir of Love. You’ll sip your way through their creations, enjoy delicious bites, mocktails, and a special musical preview from a cast member. Then, cast your vote with your tips. The drink that earns the most tips wins the coveted Top Shelf trophy.

When the shy and smitten Nemorino’s dream of winning the strong-willed Adina’s heart seems out of reach, he turns to a traveling purveyor of patent medicines in search of a love potion. After drinking every last drop, he sets off a cascade of comedic chaos. This heartwarming comedy embodies all the richness of Donizetti’s artistry and is simply too good to keep bottled up. Featuring laugh-out-loud moments and touching romance, this original, heartwarming comedy sparkles with wit and whimsy. Presented for the first time in over a decade, The Elixir of Love comes to life in a new production brought to life by conductor J. Ernest Green (Toledo Opera’s South Pacific, Ragtime, and The Merry Widow).
