With the United States nearing its 250th anniversary, Summit, Myths & Music honors the landscapes and myths that have defined the country’s spirit. Carl Nielsen’s Helios Overture traces the sun’s grand ascent over the Aegean, filling the orchestra with brilliance. Britten’s Four Sea Interludes from Peter Grimes follows—an evocative seascape of shimmering blues, stark silences, and surging waves. The mystery of Mount Rainier unfolds in Stephen Lias’s It Stands Alone, a powerful multimedia tribute commissioned in partnership with the National Park Service to honor Mount Rainier National Park’s 125th anniversary. The evening concludes with Dvořák’s American Suite, where dance-like melodies and rustic harmonies celebrate the composer’s love for the New World.

Summit, Myths & Music

Old and New explores the intersection of tradition and innovation through the intimate sounds of flute, oboe, cello, and harpsichord. Trio sonatas by J.S. Bach and J.J. Quantz provide the elegant backbone of the program—models of baroque balance and interplay. Czech composer Ilja Hurnik’s Sonata da camera draws from this same lineage, infusing the style with 20th-century wit and rhythmic charm.

Auburn Symphony joins forces with Seattle Pro Musica for a concert of profound beauty and emotional depth. Mozart’s Requiem, left unfinished at the time of his death, is a work of timeless intensity and soaring choral grandeur. Osvaldo Golijov’s Oceana, inspired by Pablo Neruda’s poetry, transforms the orchestra and choir into a vast, shimmering seascape. Together, these works create a poignant and unforgettable experience—music that resonates long after the final note.
