“I have set up the structure and it seems to have turned out well,” reads Kafka’s fragment. A being, an animal, a human, retreats into a warm, peaceful cave—far from the world. But then an inexplicable noise arises and disturbs the silence… A paranoid fear of enemies takes hold, drawing everything into its vortex, making everything suspect, and causing the security of the defensive structure to crumble.
