Francis Poulenc was a dandy, an aesthete – and an incorrigible eccentric. In his sparkling Concerto for Two Pianos, the Frenchman achieved a wild mix of styles in the early 1930s – musically situated somewhere between Mozart, Indonesian gamelan music, and Parisian chansons, and garnished with a generous dose of decadence.
