PSO's second season under their new conductor opens with a perennial favourite, Dvorak's 9th Symphony 'From the New World', whose enchanting blend of the composer's native Czech musical idioms with American themes evokes the wide open spaces of the mid-west. The slow movement features one of the best-loved tunes in the classical repertoire, played hauntingly on the cor anglais (although originally written for clarinet!).
