LA Dance Project

At Hollyhock House and Barnsdall Art Park, City of Dance meets a century‑old vision for art in public life. Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for arts patron Aline Barnsdall, this UNESCO World Heritage Site was conceived as a radical experiment in community, creativity, and shared space.

Today, City of Dance brings movement back to Olive Hill, honoring the site’s history while inviting Angelenos to experience dance woven into its architecture.

City of Dance is an ambitious, multi‑day public arts initiative that reimagines public spaces across Los Angeles through free, site‑specific dance performances transforming iconic and unexpected locations into stages, inviting audiences to encounter movement as part of the city’s everyday rhythm and to experience their urban environment through community, choreography, and shared public space. LACMA's presentation of City of Dance will take place outdoors on the plaza level of the David Geffen Galleries, on and around Mariana Castillo Deball's monumental site-specific artwork Feathered Changes, connecting art, architecture, and visitors alike with the deep history of the site.
