Triumph of the Spirit brings together rising stars and orchestral masterworks in a program celebrating resilience, imagination, and artistic brilliance. Orchestra Nova Northwest showcases the exceptional talents of the Cognizart’s 2027 Young Artists Debut winner as well as former winner, Nikita Istratov, alongside two iconic works of the repertoire: Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2, filled with sweeping romance and deeply expressive melodies, and Stravinsky’s electrifying Suite from The Firebird, whose dazzling orchestration and triumphant conclusion capture the transformative power of hope and renewal. Together, these performances embody the enduring spirit of creativity and human aspiration.

Rick Steves’ Europe: A Symphonic Journey is a unique program that celebrates music’s power to stir the patriotic soul.

2027 Spectacular!

An evening of remembrance, resilience, and discovery, featuring three powerful contemporary voices in choral and orchestral music. A world premiere by Giancarlo Castro continues the spirit of exploration and new creation, uniting chorus and orchestra in a bold new musical statement. The program culminates in Gabriela Lena Frank’s monumental Conquest Requiem, a moving meditation on loss, survival, and reconciliation inspired by the cultural legacy of the Americas, featuring the choruses of Resonance Ensemble and others!

Conquest Requiem

Clara Schumann, preeminent pianist of her generation, looks back from late in her astonishing career at the two breathless weeks that changed her life forever. It was August, 1856, in the tiny Swiss resort of Gersau on Lake Lucerne. Clara’s husband Robert, towering composer of German romanticism, has been dead for three weeks. Robert’s young protégé, Johannes Brahms, is with Clara – along with Brahms’ younger sister and two of Clara’s seven children.

ONN closes the season with four breathtaking orchestral showpieces featuring a musical world of sweeping landscapes, shimmering light, and cinematic grandeur. Portland composer Kenji Bunch’s she flies with her own wings launches the evening with energy and optimism, inspired by Oregon’s state motto and spirit of independence. Anna Clyne’s Masquerade is a whirlwind of energy and elegance, marked by sparkling strings and bold brass, and inspired by the spirit of a grand masked ball.
