John Adams’s opera Doctor Atomic is about the creation of the first atomic bomb, he then recomposed scenes to compress into a through-worked symphonic whole – transmuting the tense stage action of the original opera to the concert hall. Renowned American conductor David Robertson, acclaimed for bringing clarity to even the most complex scores, will lead the orchestra in presenting this dramatic and tense work.
