Lubbock has always been a guitar town. From the halcyon days of the 1970s, when Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jesse Taylor and BB King would jam at Stubb’s Barbeque on East Broadway; where Tom T. Hall and Joe Ely played pool with broomsticks and an onion; when everyone from Terry Allen to Jimmie Dale Gilmore to George Thorogood and Muddy Waters knew to head there for the Sunday night jams - Lubbock has been a guitar town. Going back earlier, too: in the 1960s and the legendary Maines Brothers Band, who later spun off players like the ubiquitous genius player and producer Lloyd Maines, and a little group called The Chicks.  Earlier still, in the 1950s, when Buddy Holly and Sonny Curtis re-defined both the electric guitar and created the blueprint for what a rock band would look like going forward from that moment - we’ve been a Guitar Town.
