The Sound of Music opened on November 16, 1959, at Broadway's Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, and was the final collaboration of Richard Rodgers & Oscar Hammerstein II. The Broadway musical and the famous film that followed were both critically acclaimed; and the musical continues to delight audiences to this very day.
