Fundamental Rhythms

Rhythm is everywhere and the spirit of the drum is alive! In this workshop we’ll start with learning basic rhythmic concepts and then move into specific rhythms, learning more complex rhythmic ideas such as syncopation and polyrhythms. We will use common percussion patterns that are found throughout the different drumming traditions of the African Diaspora. Emphasis is placed on the ability to truly listen to the music and rhythms which are around us every day. The ability to "hear" is a powerful tool in critical thinking and connects us with our communities and environment. Anything can be a musical Instrument!
