Join us for a profound musical journey at the Mahler & Strauss concert, part of the celebrated Colorado MahlerFest, on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at 3:30 PM. This special event, known as the Stan Ruttenberg Memorial Concert, will take place in the historic Macky Auditorium, located at 1595 Pleasant Street, Boulder. 

The afternoon will commence with a pre-concert discussion at 2:30 PM, offering insights and enriching the concert experience. Under the baton of Kenneth Woods, the MahlerFest Orchestra will present a captivating program featuring Wagner's Prelude to Die Meistersinger, Strauss's Metamorphosen, and Mahler's Symphony No. 4 in G Major. Soprano April Fredrick, a MahlerFest favorite, will grace the stage, bringing her exceptional talent to this finale performance of the season.

Strauss's Metamorphosen, composed for 23 solo string players during the final years of World War II, reflects on the end of a musical tradition that spans from Mozart and Beethoven to Mahler. Mahler's Fourth Symphony, known for its intimacy and personal touch, promises a unique orchestral experience with surprises in its orchestration.

Macky Auditorium, with its rich history and architectural beauty, provides the perfect setting for this musical feast. Note that parking can be challenging, so plan accordingly. The venue offers three seating areas—Gold Circle, Orchestra 1, and Orchestra 2—with general admission seating within each section. Doors will open at approximately 6 PM for the pre-concert discussion.
