Experience the enchantment of classical ballet with the Los Angeles Ballet's presentation of "Firebird & Serenade" at Royce Hall. This captivating double bill takes the stage on Saturday, June 1, with performances at 2 PM and 7:30 PM, promising an afternoon and evening of breathtaking artistry and musical brilliance.

"Firebird" brings to life the Russian-Slavic folk tale of a magical, fiery bird that aids Ivan, a young prince, in his quest to defeat the evil magician Tzar Kaschie and rescue the beautiful Princess. This ballet, which first premiered in Paris in 1910, features the groundbreaking choreography of Michel Fokine and the iconic score by Igor Stravinsky. Under the direction of Yuri Possokhov, this production dazzles both visually and musically, making it a perfect treat for audiences of all ages.

Complementing the evening is "Serenade," the first original ballet George Balanchine created in America and a cornerstone of the New York City Ballet’s repertoire. Performed by 28 dancers in striking blue costumes against a blue-hued backdrop, "Serenade" is a lesson in stage technique turned into art. Balanchine's choreography incorporates the unpredictability of life, including a fall and a late arrival, set to Tchaikovsky’s romantic and evocative score.
