Zora Neale Hurston was an important figure of the Harlem Renaissance. Her works focused on African American culture and the rural south. She co-founded Howard University's student-operated newspaper, The Hilltop, had A Love/Hate relationship with Langston Hughes, and studied cultural anthropology, eventually becoming the first Black woman to graduate from Barnard College.
