Join us for an extraordinary and heartwarming event as Amal Walks Across America arrives in Washington, D.C. This unique performance, presented by The Walk Productions in association with Handspring Puppet Company, features Little Amal, a 12-foot puppet symbolizing a 10-year-old Syrian refugee child. This global icon of compassion and human rights has journeyed through 13 countries, touching the hearts of over a million people with her story of resilience and hope.

On Sunday, September 17, 2023, at 3:00 PM, experience an hour-long interactive walk that begins at Black Lives Matter Plaza and concludes at Franklin Park. This immersive journey is not just a walk but a festival of hope, featuring live music performances curated by Washington Performing Arts and showcasing Mars Arts D.C. artists. The lineup includes the vibrant go-go rhythms of the Blacc Print Experience, the soul-stirring Washington Performing Arts Children of the Gospel Choir, the dynamic Eastern High School marching band, James Murphy, and other talented Mars Arts D.C. artists. Additionally, attendees will enjoy performances by The ADAMS Beat Chorus—a Muslim children’s choir, in collaboration with our partners at the Shakespeare Theatre Company.

The event promises a festival-like atmosphere at Franklin Park, complete with activity stations, food vendors, and free passes to explore Planet Word. It's a celebration of the power of compassionate welcome and the rich contributions of those building new lives in our communities.

This event is part of Washington Performing Arts’s The World in Our City initiative for the 2023-24 season, aimed at fostering cross-cultural understanding and cultural diplomacy. It is made possible through the generous support of Events DC, in collaboration with DowntownDC BID, Franklin Park, Golden Triangle BID, Planet Word, and Shakespeare Theatre Company.
