The transcendent cellist Yo-Yo Ma performs Elgar’s achingly beautiful concerto, one of the most well-known and revered of cello concertos, in this one-night-only performance. Written near the end of WWI, Elgar’s valedictory work is a searing response at once both tender and pained. Rafael Payare leads the Orchestra in Tchaikovsky’s passionate 5th Symphony, an emotion-filled journey rife with brilliant melody.
