The Midland Center Chorale is once again joined by the SVSU Choirs to perform the stupendous C Major Mass by Ludwig von Beethoven, commissioned by Prince Nikolaus Esterházy II in 1807. Conducted by Dr. Letícia Grützmann, this concert opens with Beethoven’s Symphony No.1, and it brings to Midland hailed soloists Soprano Jenna Ziccardi, Mezzo-Soprano Karen Archbold, Tenor George Milosh, and Baritone Benton DeGroot.

In the history of Jazz music, there is only one bandleader that has the distinction of having his orchestra still performing sold out concerts all over the world, with members personally chosen by him, for nearly 40 years after his passing. Pianist and bandleader William James “Count” Basie was and still is an American institution that personifies the grandeur and excellence of Jazz. The Count Basie Orchestra, today directed by Scotty Barnhart, has won every respected jazz poll in the world at least once, won 18 Grammy® Awards, performed for Kings, Queens, and other world royalty, appeared in several movies, television shows, at every major jazz festival, and major concert hall in the world. This great 18-member orchestra is still continuing the excellent history started by Basie of stomping and shouting the blues, as well as refining those musical particulars that allow for the deepest and most moving of swing.

The award-winning and spectacular pianist Kevin Cole performs with the MSO, as he has done with over 100 orchestras! Regarded as the leading interpreter of George Gershwin’s piano compositions, Kevin will play the incomparable Rhapsody in Blue, beloved since its premiere in 1924 for its integration of jazz and classical music and considered one of the greatest symphonic achievements of the 20th century. Kevin, a local artist living in Bay City, will continue to delight with Gershwin’s Piano Concerto in F. Kevin is the perfect soloist for our exploration of Gershwin - declares Edward Jablonski, renowned Gershwin scholar, “Kevin is the best Gershwin pianist since Gershwin himself – no one can touch him.”
