This orchestral program celebrates the incredible variety of dance music composed and performed in the United States. Florence Price’s 1951 orchestral Suite of Dances reflects the composer’s African American heritage, and Russian émigré Sergei Rachmaninov’s 1941 Symphonic Dances echoes the homeland he fled in 1917. Contemporary American composer Libby Larson describes her 2016 “Dancing Man Rhapsody”—written for our soloist, violinist Terrie Baune...
